South Korean girl group Blackpink is preparing for a “three-step comeback” which will commence in June and end in September, their agency, YG Entertainment, said on Monday, May 18.
In a statement translated and recorded by Korean entertainment website Soompi, it was announced that the four-piece act has already finished recording more than 10 new songs for their first studio album and completed production.
While YG Entertainment has stated previously that BLACKPINK is planning to make a comeback in June, the agency has now announced that the June release of the group would be just the first step in an elaborate, multi-phase plan.
“BLACKPINK’s first new song, which will be released in mid-June, is a pre-release title track,” explained the agency. “The BLACKPINK members are currently preparing to film the music video for the song, and they are picking up the pace of their final preparations, including practicing their new choreography.”
“The second new song, which is a special kind of a new song, is scheduled for a release in July or August.”, YG Entertainment continued.
The agency refused to provide more information about this second album, however, calling for understanding from fans about their reticence.
The news comes more than a year after last year Blackpink released their extended play “Kill This Love.”
Apart from the forthcoming record, fans are awaiting the collaboration between the group and American pop star Lady Gaga for their latest album, “Chromatica,” which was initially expected to be released on April 10 but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Blackpink, consisting of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, debuted on YG Entertainment in 2016. The group is known for its “Kill This Love,” “DDU-DU DDU-DU” and “FOREVER YOUNG” hit songs.
