The Cebu City government is opening its Quarantine Facility, located at Block 27, North Reclamation Area (NRA) this Saturday, April 25, 2020, in a bid to effectively cater to individuals found positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
When opened, the facility would become one of the largest and most advanced quarantine facilities built and operated in the count by a local government.
On Thursday morning, a few days before the start of its operations, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella personally inspected the area along with other City officials.
There will be 200 beds at the quarantine site, divided into cubicles. Equipped with a negative pressure ventilation system that blocks airborne transmission and prevents polluted air from entering the plant.
The facility will also be completely fitted with the hospital equipment required to separate and treat patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms.
Mayor Labella emphasized that in creating this type of facility, the contractor of the quarantine facility have to strictly follow the guidelines and standards set by the Department of Health (DOH).
Construction of the quarantine facility began last March 28, only two days after Mayor Labella signed Executive Order No. 064 declaring State of Enhanced Community Quarantine in Cebu City.
The Government of Cebu City has allocated P100 million for its construction. Yet the City was able to save about half of the facility’s allocated budget.
This is thanks to several donors and well-meaning private sector individuals who have extended their aid during this pandemic in the spirit of teamwork and bayanihan.
