Actress-singer Kim Chiu is proving that she’s a good sport despite the hate she’s been receiving online after airing her sentiments regarding the ABS-CBN shutdown.
The actress recorded and released her full version of the ‘Bawal Lumabas’ song inspired by her statement during the #LabanKapamilya Facebook live streaming.
Kim’s viral statement went: “Sa classroom may batas, bawal lumabas, oh bawal lumabas. Pero ‘pag sinabi, ‘pag nag-comply ka na bawal na lumabas pero may ginawa ka sa pinagbabawal nila, inayos mo ‘yong law ng classroom niyo at sinumbit mo ulit ay pwede na pala ikaw lumabas.”
This controversial statement generated countless of “Bawal Lumabas” memes and parodies all over social media but now, the actress-singer is turning the negativity into positivity.
She released the full song as part of her latest YouTube vlog on Monday, May 18.
The song is inspired by the words of a netizen, Adrian Crisanto, who penned an open letter for the Kapamilya actress on Facebook that encouraged her to face the criticism and offered steps for her to move forward.
The song’s beat was by music arranger DJ SQuammy.
Kim thanked the two for helping her feel better so she can share positivity through the song.
“Nag-record ako kagabi ng kanta hanggang 3AM in the morning para lang magawa ‘tong kantang ‘to at para mabuo lang ‘yung ‘Bawal Lumabas’ so napakagandang lyrics na ginawa ni Adrian, ang ganda nong beat. Game ako, this is something nice and positive out of the negative na nangyari noong mga nakaraang araw,” Kim said.
The song “debut” included a music video, which included clips of Kim at home (because…bawal lumabas), at outreach programs, and of TikTok users dancing to the DJ Squammy beat.
Kim admitted that she stayed off social media and the internet following harsh criticism over a rather incoherent statement made during a “Laban Kapamilya” stream on social media. The stream, which featured some of her home network ABS-CBN’s biggest talents, was a means for network artists personnel to express their thoughts after they were forced to go off-air following a government order.
The actress herself also admitted that while she also found the statement funny, she didn’t expect the amount of bashing and hate that would come her way.
Kim is among the network’s biggest stars. She first found fame as the winner of the first ever Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition. She’s since starred in several hit TV series and movies.
