Since mid-April of this year, the Cebu City government has started aimed mass testing to (1) recognise and quickly isolate and treat infected individuals, and (2) develop solid programs and policies based on actual data from the city to prepare for the “new normal” in June. Therefore, we continue to see a high increase in the number of positive cases until today.

The Cebu City Public Information Office reported on May 21 a 32 new confirmed COVID-19 cases with 7 new recoveries and 2 deaths. This brings the total number to 1,814.

Below is the breakdown of new cases posted by SunStar Cebu on their Facebook page.

Cebu City has a total record of 1,814 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 114 recoveries and 18 deaths as of 21 May 2020. Although the number of cases is high, Cebu City still has the lowest death rate in the Philippines (below 0.75%) compared to Manila City at 8.28% and the global average at 6.4%.

The Cebu City Health Department continues to test, trace and isolate, then treat, in coordination with the Department of Health. Inside the BIC, the team closely monitors our patients and also those in home isolation.

Stay at home, practice good hygiene, get tested and follow the protocols when the local authorities advise.

Lets do our part!
